JORGE MONTERO
Professor Jorge Montero is a Venezuelan-born American graphic designer, illustrator, visual artist, author, and educator. With a distinguished career in higher education spanning nearly four decades, Professor Montero holds both a Master of Arts (MA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design from the University of Iowa, United States, conferred in 2000.
From 1984 to 2003, he served as a professor and Director of the School of Arts and Design at the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) in Mérida, Venezuela. In 2003, he joined the Graphic Design faculty at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), one of the world's most prestigious institutions for art and design. Notably, the renowned German foundation for design promotion, Red Dot, ranks SCAD as the top design university in the Americas and Europe.
Professor Montero’s teaching excellence has been recognized with prominent international accolades, including:
Shuhmacher Guest Professorship (2003) at the University of Dortmund, Germany.
Fulbright Award (2018) granted by the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain.
Overseas Professorship (2019) from the Republic of China.
Throughout his career, he has lectured and taught in more than 20 countries, including Germany, France, Spain, and China. As a freelance designer and illustrator, he has collaborated with clients across China, the United States, and Venezuela. He is the author of the book Typographic Structure, published by Kendall Hunt. His artistic work and designs have been exhibited globally, reflecting a unique perspective and a creative vision centered on the integrity of visual structure.
El profesor Jorge Montero es un diseñador gráfico, ilustrador, artista visual, autor y educador venezolano y nacionalizado estadounidense. Con una distinguida carrera en la enseñanza universitaria que abarca casi cuatro décadas, el profesor Montero posee una Maestría en Artes (MA) y una Maestría en Bellas Artes (MFA) en Diseño Gráfico por la University of Iowa, Estados Unidos, obtenidas en el año 2000.
Fue profesor y director de la Escuela de Artes y Diseño de la Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) en Mérida, Venezuela, desde 1984 hasta el año 2003, cuando ingresó a la escuela de Diseño Gráfico del Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), una de las instituciones más prestigiosas en el campo del arte y el diseño a nivel mundial. Cabe destacar que la prestigiosa fundación alemana para la promoción del diseño, Red Dot, califica a SCAD como la mejor universidad de diseño de América y Europa.
La excelencia en la enseñanza del Profesor Montero ha sido reconocida con destacados galardones internacionales, entre los que sobresalen:
